We are the American Legion Hart Beard Post #155 in Petersburg, Tennessee.
We meet on the second Saturday of each month at 9 AM at 200 Southside Square. If you are a veteran and you are looking for ways to continue your service to God and Country, help other veterans and serve your community come join us.
The American Legion was founded in Paris in March 1919 by members of the American Expeditionary Forces to provide support, camaraderie and advocacy for WWI veterans. Chartered by Congress in September 1919, the nation’s largest wartime veteran’s organization established the Veterans Administration (VA), created the GI Bill, and promotes patriotism through community programs.
The Petersburg Post was chartered in April 1931 and has been in continuous operation since that time. Our Activities Include:
- Assisting local veterans with transportation to medical appointments and other transportation needs.
- Providing for the moral and welfare needs of veterans at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro and in local nursing facilities.
- Sponsor Angel Trees in concert with local businesses to provide gifts to those in need at Christmas.
- Provide scholarship type funding for local high school students through the Boys and Girls Delegates programs.
- Work to promote American Legion programs for veteran suicide prevention through the ‘Be The One’ initiative.
- Annual work detail to clean up and maintain cemetery headstones and plots in showing continued respect for those who have gone before us.
- Sponsor events that serve to connect the community with the American Legion.
